Republican Leaders Continue Push for Jumpstarting Economy, Getting Californians Back to Work

Dave Cogdill

Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill and Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines, both of Fresno, today issued the following statement regarding economic stimulus, after Democratic leaders released their proposals:

“We are encouraged to see Democrats finally realize the importance of revitalizing our economy and promoting job creation as part of our efforts to solve California’s long-term budget problems. Republicans have said for many months now that jumpstarting the economy must be one of our top budget priorities and we are pleased to see Democrats begin to come around.

“We have proposed several reforms to help turn our economy around and promote job creation in California – without relying on bonds or establishing new programs. By creating incentives for companies to invest in California and eliminating the roadblocks that have made it too expensive to stay in business here, we will create jobs and bring in more tax revenue for the state. We continue to urge Democrats and the Governor to make economic stimulus a top priority as we negotiate a budget compromise.”
