Assemblyman Chuck DeVore

Almost immediately after winning his 3rd and final seat in the California State Assembly, Chuck DeVore, a Repubican from Irvine has announced that he will be running to replace incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer in the United States Senate. Boxer is a Democrat from Oakland.

DeVore supports normal Republican ideals:  opposing taxes, supporting the military and has led the effort to both lift the ban on building nuclear power plants in the state and drill for California’s oil reserves.  DeVore feels his campaign will be competitive against Boxer in California through the utilization of modern web 2.0 campaign strategies that Boxer doesn’t have.  His edge, in essence, is that he is in tune with the younger generation’s cummunication tools and will more effectively get his message out to younger voters.

As for why he is the right choice for California, DeVore said this in his candidacy announcement:

I am confident we will win that fight. I am confident that when Californians have a real choice between me and Barbara Boxer — it will be an easy choice for them. 

1. You see, I want Californians to keep their hard-earned money.
2. I want to lower fuel and energy costs by producing more of America’s oil, and building modern, safe and reliable nuclear power plants.
3. I want to rein in runaway Federal spending.
4. I want to bring a conservative leadership to Washington, D.C., that actually works.

The question remains if his message will resonate with the young population or with a state that is one-fifth decline-to-state.

Another unanswered question is whether or not he will be challenged by Arnold Schwarzenegger, California’s termed out Governor who is quite unpopular with the California Republican Party but somewhat popular with California voters.  Generally, the party loyals are the ones who come to the polls during the primary election, which is good news for DeVore.  Schwarzenegger has yet to announce a campaign for Senator, but if he does he will have all of the money he has collected as governor to run a strong campaign against Devore.

When asked whether he was concerned about Schwarzenegger, DeVore’s response was “Bring it on.”
