71% of Californians Think The State Is Headed In The Wrong Direction

Californians favor Obama by 23%

The Issue: The Public Policy Institute of California, a non-profit that provides objective, advocacy-free information to California lawmakers and citizens about California public opinion.  According to their 32nd Californians and Their Government survey, 71% of Californians believe that California is headed in the wrong direction, among other findings.

The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to informing and improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research.  They have developed 91 statewide surveys, 32 of which have been of the Californians and Their Government Series.

According to the survey, some of the major findings of the survey are the following:

  • Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, is losing (52% to 44%) among likely voters. Support for Propositions 4 and 11 is less than 50 percent.
  • Likely voters prefer Sen. Barack Obama for president over Sen. John McCain by a 23-point margin, a 13-point gain since last month.
  • Seventy-one percent of Californians think the state is headed in the wrong direction.

    I am not surprised that after a long term with Arnold that people are bothered by the way their state is moving. For on thing, Arnold doesn’t get good press, generally. And the other is that there are too many earthquakes and not enough done about them.
